Good Friday of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebrations

Good Friday, March 30 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebration: The 2018 prayer focus in preparation of our worship of Christ for His death for our sins and the celebration for His resurrection that gives us eternal life.

Verses of the Day:
Luke 23:50-56 And a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man (he had not consented to their plan and action), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God; this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain. It was the preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Prayer for the Day:
Lord Jesus, they laid Your body in the tomb.  The hopelessness and despair of that moment, that would be my hopelessness and despair were it not for Your resurrection from the dead.  On Friday, death had won and the grave was victorious, but only for a moment in time.  As we remember Your sacrifice today and as we set aside time tonight to worship You for Your work of redemption, may the weight of our own hopelessness and despair, apart from You, flood our souls.  May the joy of Your victorious death and resurrection wash over us as well.  Your victory over sin, death and the grave is now my victory too.  I was lost but You found me.  I was condemned but You justified me.  I was dead but You raised me.

Day 40 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebrations

Thursday, March 29, Day 40 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebration: The 2018 prayer focus in preparation of our worship of Christ for His death for our sins and the celebration for His resurrection that gives us eternal life.

Verses of the Day:
John 19:31-37 Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.  So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him;  but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.  But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.  And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “Not a bone of Him shall be broken.”  And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”

Prayer for the Day:
Lord Jesus, You were pierced through for my transgressions.  The spear that pierced Your side was for me.  You were crushed for our iniquities.  You died in my place.  Death could not keep You and the grave could not hold You.  You rose again victorious over the power of sin and death. The brutality of the cross shows the seriousness of my sin.  While Your death shows my unrighteousness, Your resurrection shows Your purity.  Now my soul can sing, “Jesus Christ, You are worthy of all praise, honor, glory and power, for now and forevermore.  Amen.”

Day 39 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebrations

Wednesday, March 28, Day 39 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebration: The 2018 prayer focus in preparation of our worship of Christ for His death for our sins and the celebration for His resurrection that gives us eternal life.

Verses of the Day:
Matthew 27:45-51 Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. 46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47 And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48 Immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink. 49 But the rest of them said, “Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.

Prayer for the Day:
I'm forgiven because You were forsaken. I'm accepted, You were condemned. I'm alive and well. Your spirit is within me. Because You died and rose again.  Amazing love, how can it be, that You my King would die for me.  Amazing love, I know it’s true.  It’s my joy to honor You.  In all I do, I honor You.  (from the words of the song, Amazing Love by Chris Tomlin)
