Day 8 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebrations

Sunday, February 25, Day 8 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebration: The 2018 prayer focus in preparation of our worship of Christ for His death for our sins and the celebration for His resurrection that gives us eternal life.

Verses of the Day:
John 13:37-38 Jesus answered, “Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.” Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You.” Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.

John 18:25-27 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You are not also His disciple, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.” One of the slaves of the high priest said…“Did I not see you in the garden with Him?” Peter then denied again, and immediately a rooster crowed.

Prayer for the Day:
Lord Jesus, You endured such devastating denial for us.  We have all felt the sting of an unfaithful friend, but You, the perfect Savior and Lord, also know what it is like to have a close friend cause such pain.  Like Simon Peter, we too are prone to distance ourselves from You out of embarrassment or inconvenience or fear.  You are faithful even when we are not. Help us in our weaknesses.

Day 7 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebrations

Saturday, February 24, Day 7 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebration: The 2018 prayer focus in preparation of our worship of Christ for His death for our sins and the celebration for His resurrection that gives us eternal life.

Verses of the Day:
John 13:12-17 So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for I am. If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

Prayer for the Day:
Lord Jesus, the night of Your betrayal and just hours before Your crucifixion, You humbly knelt before sinful disciples and washed their feet.  Please take Your servant heart and place it within me.  We long for Your promised blessing, “you are blessed if you do them,” that comes when we imitate You.

Day 6 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebrations

Friday, February 23, Day 6 of the 40 Days of Prayer, 1 Day of Celebration: The 2018 prayer focus in preparation of our worship of Christ for His death for our sins and the celebration for His resurrection that gives us eternal life.

Verses of the Day:
John 15:6-10 So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter.” Peter said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.” Jesus said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean…”

Prayer for the Day:
Oh Lord, You are gracious.  We see that You washed the feet of all of the disciples, including the one who would betray You and the one who would deny You.  Lord Jesus, like Simon Peter, You have also cleansed us completely by Your merciful work on the cross.  We confess that You alone are the only way we can be pure before the Heavenly Father.
